A new trophy is born19/03/2014After several months of development, the new PIAF trophy has seen the light. It is based on the logo – an origami bird – and it honors the typical colors. This was possible thanks to the unique glass Vitrucell developed at the glassworks Lhotský in Pelechov. The gold, silver and bronze trophies differ by a small detail – the color of the cut, which symbolizes the beak. The author of the new design is Václav Řezáč. The glassworks Lhotský focus on artistic glass sculptures and produce most of their work abroad. After the Czech Lion awards, PIAF is their second recent significant client on the domestic market. It is all more important as the design’s author is directly from the Pelechov glassworks. The company will present several of its pieces at the PIAF conference.

Two new speakers at the PIAF conference!10/03/2014The PIAF conference, which will be held in May, is announcing two new speakers - Pete Blakshaw from Nestlé and Alex Stil from Mindshare.
Before Nestlé, Pete Blackshaw was the CMO of NM Incite, a joint venture between Nielsen and McKinsey that integrated social insight into core business strategies. In his book “Satisfied Customers Tell Three Friends, Angry Customers Tell 3000: Running a Business in Today’s Consumer-Driven World” (Doubleday) Pete shares hundreds of experiences with Fortune 1000 companies working to improve the consumer conversation. While at P&G, he helped lead the company to Ad Age’s “1999 Interactive Marketer of the Year” distinction. He recently served as chairman of the board of the National Council of Better Business Bureaus and co-founded the Word-of-Mouth Marketing Association (WOMMA). An Advertising Research Foundation (ARF) “Great Minds” award winner, Pete is a graduate of Harvard Business School and the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Alex Stil is Mindshare’s EMEA digital leader, currently responsible for leading, managing, and developing all digital services across 50+ countries. He leads a community of digital employees across digital capabilities such as strategy, mobile, social marketing, paid search and performance marketing. He also oversees the global development of mobile and programmatic for Mindshare. Recently he was nominated Online Media Man of the Year and he is ranked in the top 100 most influential people in media in the Netherlands. He has received numerous industry honors such as the Spin awards (interactive), Amma Agency of the Year (twice), Dutch Search Engine Marketing award, Dutch email marketing award.
More star speakers at the conference10/03/2014George Prest, Creative Director at the London agency R/GA, comes from a now world famous new type of agency. The transformation of services for clients will be the topic of his presentation at the PIAF conference. According to him, clients used to have two agencies – one that was talking about advertising (ATL) and the second one that did the advertising (online). The strategy came from ATL agencies, and digital agencies executed it. Today there is a demand for a third wave of agencies that can handle both and for which online will be a natural environment. Prest states flatly this controversial opinion and adds that "the agency R/GA London is that agency and I will prove it in my presentation".
Pierre Woreczek has over 20 years of experience in marketing, research and development and advertising, including working in Jacobs Suchard, Cadbury Schweppes and eight years in advertising. He is now responsible for sustainability, marketing, food strategy and sports partnerships in McDonald’s Europe. He is also leading the Consumer & Business Insights and Design Studio. McDonald’s is one of the leading innovators in the field of communication and marketing. Therefore Pierre’s view on the present and future of the industry and the McDonald’s brand strategy will be among the highlights of the conference.
Walter Susini joined Unilever in January 2012 as Vice President Global Brands Creative and design excellence. Appointed to create a new creative and innovative culture inside the Marketing team. With his presentation at PIAF he will explain what it means, what steps he had to undertake and what results he achieved. He used his experience gained in his own company Alexandria - Land of generous ideas, that focused on branding and innovation. Before that, he worked for five years as Regional and Global Creative excellence Director for The Coca-Cola Company, during which time he developed some of the most famous campaigns of the last fifteen years, including campaigns such as Coke side of life.

The chairman of the jury and the most awarded Creative Director in Europe Alexander Schill is calling “No More Advertising, Please!” He will try to answer the question of what to do at a time when traditional advertising is outdated.
Another internationally renowned creative star is Mouzannar Bechara, Creative Director at Leo Burnett MENA. He will have 40 minutes to explain the steps taken to transform Leo Burnett Beirut into one of the most creative agencies of the world. Arno Lindemann is the star of independent creativity and partner of the agency Lukas Lindemann Rosinski. Storytelling is a communication method which goes back thousands of years. What forms has it taken in today's world?
The fourth juror and also speaker of this year’s PIAF is Ivan Pols, Creative Director at Ogilvy & Mather London. He’s worked on three continents doing everything from graphic design and art direction, to web and interaction design, illustration and occasional IT support. He will introduce an innovative case-study for the brand Philips.

PIAF discloses the 2014 jury05/02/2014
The jury will judge entries in all categories in 2 rounds. The first round consists in shortlisting all the entries, the shortlists will be published online by mid-May. The classic judging session will then take place on May 19thand 20th, as per usual in a former 19th century synagogue, hidden in a courtyard close to the festival venue. You will get the chance to meet the jurors personally during the conference, as many of them will have a keynote presentation there. Or you can chat with them at the closing party on the roof of the functionalist monument – the Trade Fair Palaceon May 21st.
Many of the jurors work for the biggest world communication networks. We have also however included representatives of progressive independent agencies, whose success and influence keep growing. The jury also presents representatives of brands that bet on creativity in their communication – Carlsberg, McDonalds and Unilever. The delegate for Czech creativity is the new ADC Czech president Radouane HadjMoussa.

The 2014 jury president is Alexander Schill from Serviceplan05/02/2014The most awarded European creative director is coming to PIAF a second time next year. Two years ago he was a member of the jury led by Gideon Amichay. Next year he will stand at its head. The agency Serviceplan, led by Alexander Schill, has grown considerably in recent years and has become the largest independent agency in Europe. Alex has won over 30 Cannes Lions and he holds the third place in worldwide ranking of Chief Creative Officer (Big Won). He stands 9th at PIAFYS for the year 2012/13. Serviceplan holds the same position among the most creative agencies of the world (Big Won). The agency operates offices in nine countries around the world, its clients include BMW, Lufthansa and O2.
A creative award for students05/02/2014The State agency CzechTourism has announced a creative contest for the best campaign to promote the Czech Republic as a tourist destination for students of European universities. Participation is open to students especially in marketing, economics and art universities from European countries. The winner will be elected by the PIAF jury and will be announced at the Best of ... 2014. The finalists will attend the festival free of charge. The winner will be rewarded with a financial prize of 8,800 Euro. Further information here.
PIAF 2014 is taking place from May 19th to 21st23/12/2013As is custom with PIAF, the first day will be devoted to the judging session. The international conference will then be held on the following 2 days. It will once again present the most interesting recent campaigns as well as their creators. The burning issue of public interest campaigns – especially state campaigns made by public contract - will be reopened. The entire festival program will culminate with a showcase of winning entries.
Baron and Mescall once again at the top of PIAFYS23/12/2013Prague - Pat Baron (pictured) and John Mescall are leading the largest global ranking of creatives at the start of the new 2013/2014 season. After taking into account the results of the festivals Cresta Awards, Golden Drum, Loerie, MIAF and Spikes Asia, almost 750 professionals have already made it to the ranking PIAFindYourSelf. It is no surprise that at this point, Asian and Russian creatives have a strong presence. The European creative stage, including Alexander Schill, who was the top ranked European creative last year (9th) and will be presiding over the PIAF2014 jury, has not yet started building up its position at PIAFYS. Conference Record Breaker23/05/2013
Over 400 people attended the PIAF conference this year. The first day opened the important topic of communications of state administration and public institutions. The advertising field communicated its aim at creating guidelines for public tenders and a general price list for communications services which would assist clients in being able to identify worthless offers.
The second day was high quality and aimed at emotions in advertising. Several times during the day we were reminded that standard methods of one-way communication are lacking or not effective. MVP agency’s experience with the presidential campaign of Karel Schwarzenberg stuck out among the flow of case studies and trendy presentations. We also heard that advertising is now more responsible than before and can be a tool for making the world a better place and was backed by several campagins. Chris Nann from the German Serviceplan when he announced that the digital project connecting people in Europe and Africa with the help of technology got the Bill Gates Foundation grant.
PIAF Gave Out 48 Awards23/05/2013
"People generally hate advertisements. The winners of PIAF awards are different," says Chris Garbutt, the jury president and Chief Creative Officer of the French branch of Ogilvy. "Clients often want ideas that they know work. We, however, awarded innovation and new ideas. A good advertisement must be unexpected. Every good campaign brings us one step closer to ridding advertisements of their bad reputation," said Garbutt before the PIAF award ceremony.
The live rock PIAF „theme song“ opened the evening PIAF awards program followed by a quick showing of all awarded work. The focus of the evening was not on the awarding formalities but focused more on the actual showcase of Best of…work. The Czech and Slovak work naturally got the most applause in addition to the two Russian representatives of Red Pepper, the winners of the longest legs in heels category.
The jury awarded 48 prizes. The grand prix was not given as the rules for the grand prix are very difficult as the work must be complex and must score in several categories. The judging this year was the longest in the history of PIAF and lasted deep into the evening hours. Chris Garbutt commended the jury where in addition to top creatives there were also super high class worldwide marketers. This mix allows for a debate of a new quality.
The PIAF jury announced shortlists in all fourteen categories. This year 100 agencies from 24 countries entered 360 entries. PIAF received entries from 5 agencies in Brazil and many new entries from the French market (a market never really represented at PIAF in the past). More work from Slovakia as well, 40 entries in all. PIAF’s entry in the Hungarian national rating brought entries up to 9. The most exotic entries were from Arab Emirates and Korea. Czech work was represented as a third of all entries. The categories with the most entries were Flash Impact, Storytelling, Principle of Game and Audience Engagement. 49 Czech and 13 Slovak entries were shortlisted. The biggest stakes are riding on Ogilvy Group, Young & Rubicam, Kaspen/Jung von Matt and Havas. Work from Russia, France, USA and Hungary were also successful. See shortlists here.
PIAF Shall dance - Special DJ set29/04/2013
Work then Play – after both days of PIAF! It is the first year that the visitors of the evening programme Shots in the Dark won't have to head home after the show. The bar in the festival's foyer will stay open and we may even dance! A special DJ set created from the hudebnibanka.cz database will play until at least midnight. Shots in the Dark are on Tuesday 21 May from 19.30 and entry is free. More on the program here. Festival-goers will hear the same music show (longer version) after the second day of the festival as well.
"Our DJ will play produced music in an original set combining genres and modern sound. PIAF attendees will have direct access to the hudebnibanka.cz database," says Jan J. Nedved, the executive of Studio Fontana.
The database contains over 300,000 songs from all genres from Arabian Folklore to Classics to contemporary dance.
PIAF Final Final Deadline 25th April18/04/2013Competitors will have until 25 April to enter their work into PIAF, the international creative competition. The international jury, led by Chris Garbutt (Ogilvy France) will make their decisions on May 21 and 22 in Prague. The PIAF judging system allows for any innovative work whether ATL, BTL, media planning, sales support, design or brand creation to be entered. The Prague Mayor has given his letter of auspices to PIAF 201317/04/2013
Bohuslav Svoboda, the Mayor of Prague again gave his letter of auspices to PIAF and has promised to attend the festival during its opening conference block called "In the Public's Interest" which will address communications of state administration and public institutions.
The City of Prague is a main client for communications projects and campaigns and this is why we are happy to have Radka Hrstkova, the magistrate's communications manager, present in the closing discussion on the future and legislative conditions of communications in the public's interest in the Czech Republic.

Our conference is busting at the seams26/03/2013
Tuesday – the first day of the conference will be exciting. We have 5 interactive workshops and the first conference block. This time we have decided to limit the workshop capacity to allow for the active participation of the listeners.
The icing on the cake will be a workshop by the former creative director -multimedia for the American legendary Rolling Stone magazine. This workshop is suited for art directors and creatives in addition to representatives of print media. The same day we have prepared a conference block on communications of state and public institutions. In addition to inspirational campaigns, we will also have a look at how this sector works abroad and how it works in the Czech Republic. The US Ad Council, which has been producing public service campaigns since WWII will present its American model. On the evening of the first day will again show the Shots in the Dark – a free show reel for the public.
The second day will be dedicated to emotions in current communications and marketing. We will hear from top marketers from brands such as Absolut, Adidas and KLM. You can also look forward to a presentation from our PIAF Jury President Chris Garbutt of Ogilvy France or Christoph Nann of one of the most creative agencies in the world – German Serviceplan. Will Rust will be the conference moderator. PIAF is scheduled for 21 and 22 May this year. A detailed programme will be announced at the end of March.

His Europcar campaign with crashed cars was enjoyed by thousands on Youtube. He won countless awards at international festivals and under his leadership Ogilvy France became the Eurobest Agency of the Year twice. He claims to be obsessed with the future of advertising. An ideal trait for the PIAF jury President – Chris Garbutt, Chief Creative Officer Ogilvy France. Another interesting face in the jury is Adrian Botan, Vice President Creative Excellence McCann WorldGroup for Central and Eastern Europe. Last year PIAF welcomed Alexander Schill from Serviceplan Germany, while this year, Christoph Nann will come to Prague sporting the „European creative superstar“ jersey. Sweden will send Magnus Jakobsson of DDB Stockholm, the creator of many actual winning campaigns, to Prague.
In line with PIAF’s main idea that creativity adds value whether it is from client or agency we will welcome top marketers to our jury. Serdar Sirin Ekrem, Advertising Director at Turkish Airlines was awarded the title International Marketer of the Year. Sebastian Billing as a global director of the iconic Absolut brand will be joining us in Prague for the second year in a row. Alexander Matt holds a similar position, Global Marketing Director, but his company is Adidas Originals. ACD Czech nominated Jitka Bret-Srbova, Associate Creative Director of Young and Rubicam Praha. PIAF will announce shortlists by mid May and on 20 May the jury will meet in Prague for final decision-making. Winners will be announced at the Best of…PIAF on 22 May in the National Gallery - Veletržní palace. The jury will make all the decisions on winners in each category. This is what keeps the competition level balanced. Work can already be submitted now. The deadline is 4 April.
Call for entries10/02/2013
You can send your entries into PIAF 2013’s twelve innovative categories up until 4 April. It is the third year in a row that our international jury headed this year by Chris Garbutt (more info on jurors here) will decide on winners of the best beer ad and state and public institutions.
„We are thrilled that PIAF has established itself enough to be accepted by Hungary into its national rating system and that AKA (the Czech Association of Communications Agencies) raised PIAF’s points to the level of international festivals such as Golden Drum. I think that the standard of our jury and winning entries reflects this,“ said the festival’s Managing Director, Marek Hlavica.

Next year PIAF will again be held in May. The jury will meet on Monday 20 May and the conference will follow on Tuesday 21 May and Wednesday 22 May. On Wednesday evening we will hold the official celebratory announcement of the competition results. The competition will be opened at the end of January/beginning of February. PIAF 2013 preparations are officially underway.
Alexander Schill at the top24/10/2012
Alexander Schill, the Chief Creative Officer of the German agency Serviceplan and member of the PIAF 2012 jury made his way to the top of the annual PIAFYS ranking, which maps and includes accomplishments from June of 2011 to July of 2012. Another PIAF 2012 juror and last year's PIAFYS winner, Luiz Sanches (Creative Director of Almap BBDO Brazil) made it into the top 10.
PIAFYS is a global creative ranking comprised and updated on the basis of information from public sources. Awards from 26 international festivals are included in the PIAFYS ranking. There were 3,340 creatives included in the ranking of PIAFYS 2011/2012. For the final results and to find your position in the ranking, please look here. PIAF created new slogan for Prague15/05/2012
We are proud to announce the best slogan for the city of Prague, which came from our special contest! PIAF’s international jury evaluated a total of 252 entries from 31 countries. The winning slogan was „Dear Prague,..“ created by Jakub Vysloužil from Hradce Králové. The jury did not judge the slogan‘s graphic design but rather its wording which paraphrased the letter’s salutation or its confidential and intimate relationship with the addressee (Prague).
„We agreed with the Prague City Hall to hand over all entries to the City. If any of the entries were interesting to them, they can contact the author and begin a cooperation. Our competition is not binding for the City of Prague in any way,“ adds Marek Hlavica, managing director, PIAF. The only requirement was the award for the winner: a weekend trip to Prague. The other shortlisted work came from Italy, The Netherlands, Hungary, Czech Republic and Portugal. The City of Prague has supported PIAF ever since it started in 2010.
PIAF WINNERS ARE OUT OF THE BOX 30/04/2012Today, being creative is not enough. Prague International Advertising Festival awarded work which goes beyond the usual "boxes" and is truly innovative. The Jury led by Gideon Amichay awarded the Grand Prix to the Lego "Builders of Sound" by Serviceplan Germany. A special machine was built from Lego for the launch of the new feature film Star Wars in 3D in Germany. Alexander Schill, Chief Creative Offices of Serviceplan, commented: "Lego is a fantastic client, because the product is fantastic, everybody knows it and loves it. What we aim in our work is to push creativity and be very innovative. With Lego, you should never build the same piece, even with the same bricks you have"

Gideon Amichay: creativity changes life for the better20/04/2012Before the PIAF Jury meets in Prague to choose the best out of the box work, we asked the Jury President and Key Note Speaker Gideon Amichay few questions.
This year PIAF has decided to revolutionize award categories by eliminating distinctions between advertising on traditional and new media. Do you think it makes no sense to distinguish the two?
Gideon: I think that great work can be done in both. It's good to honor big ideas coming from traditional advertising, although personally my heart is with innovation.
What does creativity mean for you today?
Gideon: The ability to change life for the better.
What are the most innovative forms of unconventional marketing today?
Gideon: I think Google is doing some great thinking to help marketing these days. I believe Facebook is about to set a different arena for brands and true engagement. I'm looking forward the Olympic games in London, which I'm sure will be a great platform for unconventional marketing.
How important is digital and how much difficulty will big agencies have in adapting their creativity to new media?
Gideon: Digital is important because it has changed the world for the better. It´s ability lies with achieving good results for brands, but it´s greatness lies with the benefits it creates for people. I don’t think we need to "adapt" our creativity. With digital we have so many possibilities to create, to touch people, to engage them and simply to do so much more than ever before. That's why it isn't about "adapting", but about exploring.

How to make your entry: Ten things to think about 31/01/2012Dejan Štajnberger, creative director of VCCP Prague, on what makes good entry:
1. Think about hard work. American Rom was one of the best campaigns of 2011. It took 2,5 mounts to edit the case study video!
2. Think PC screen big. Biggest ideas can be missed, if they appear in small copy on the screen.
3. Think movie trailer. Decide, if you case study video is going to be a drama, triller or comedy…
4. Think about actors, friends... just never let your creative people appear in your video as passerby, audience etc. This is a fake.
5. Think about details. But don´t mention all numbers. You want to be the interesting person, not the one, who knows everything
6. Think about voiceover. I would rather listen then read. You?
7. Think about Facebook and Adsoftheworld. First place your idea there and it may give you some feed back or free PR.
8. Think like my account gilrfriend. Jury members have their own job to do, so often someone else is making the judging. Girlfriend?
9. Think fake. There is always a bit more merit to fake "fork" for big clients, than to real work for small clients.

Dramatic changes in PIAFYS 2011/1224/10/2011
The first running results of the worldwide creatives ranking in 2011/12 indicate a dramatic change in the top ten. The results of the following festivals (taking place after PIAF 2011) were reflected in the ranking: Cannes Lions, Spikes Asia, Loerie, D&AD, ADC Europe, Red Apple, Kiev International Advertising Festival, Golden Hammer, and Golden Drum.

PIAF 2012 to be held in late April19/09/2011
Next year's PIAF, Prague International Advertising Festival, will be held a little earlier than before – on April 25 and 26, 2012. The international jury will vote a day earlier. Once again, the two-day conference will welcome mostly foreign experts in the field of marketing and communication from all over the world.
The PIAF festival has already started working on its third year. The innovative competition categories, introduced in May of this year, have proven to be useful, and thus will continue to be the pillar of the festival. The festival organizers are striving to make an agreement with the National Gallery so that the festival can again be held at the Veletržní Palace.
Final results of PIAFYS 2010/1119/09/2011
The most comprehensive world rating of creative professionals in the area of advertising, PIAFindYourSelf, has ended its assessment of the period between PIAF 2010 (May) and PIAF 2011 (May). The title of Creative Professional of the Year went to Luiz Sanches, Creative Director of the Brazilian agency AlmapBBDO. Look for your name in the complete chart here.

We just released a new video telling the story of more than two days of PIAF, the biggest advertising festival in Central Europe. We thank all out participants, speakers and the great Jury for taking part. „PIAF is at the beginning. It has a wonderful focus on brands and groving of brands in all aspects. It differentiates PIAF from other festivals. This kind of show should bring more attention. We had a fantastic jury, discussed a lot and made some very good choices. The PIAFYS creative ranking is just beeing updated, the annual results were announced on May 12th at the award ceremony in Prague. The number one in the chart Luiz Sanches from Almap BBDO greeted the audience with this video message. PIAF was the last contest of the season, anyway creative directors will keep collecting their points all the year long. Conference shows the future of advertising06/04/2011
The PIAF conference on May 11 and 12th will host more than 30 top experts with international experiences from advertising and marketing. The program consists of workshops, presentations, panel discussions and screenings. How can brands involve more human senses? To what extend can creative advertising be effective? How to sell creativity in a company? How to cross the borders? On PIAF conference, agencies and their clients can see the direction where advertising is going.
„We have never had so many international marketing or communication directors presenting in any Czech conference so far. Through giving examples mainly from abroad we want to inspire the local marketing professionals to develop new solutions - brave and working at the same time," said Marek Hlavica, managing director PIAF. After its debut in 2010, the second year of PIAF is marked by major changes. We have innovated almost everything: a new venue for the festival to take place, the most prestigious jury with clients and creative professionals from 15 countries, and last but not least, a completely new system of categories never seen in any festival so far.
“Our Jury will judge creativity from the birth of a brand to creative forms of distribution and sales. At the same time, we are not looking for the best possible television ad or print ad. We want to honour creativity in delivering key brand messages to the target group using principles such as abbreviation, storytelling or inviting consumers to a playful interaction, for example,” comments managing director of PIAF, Marek Hlavica.

PIAF Jury is prepared to look for the best brands 14/02/2011
Today, we present the rest of our Jury members. In festivals, everything is about people – and celebrities, of course. In May, 19 top professionals including Susan Credle (Loe Burnett USA), Guido Heffels (Heimat), Pete Favat (Arnold Worldwide) and Ian Armstrong (Honda Europe) will join the PIAF jury.
But in PIAF everything turns around BRANDS. The Festival brings a key new element to the competition. Categories are not formed according to traditional media use, from film to outdoor or digital, but they all follow the process of brand building. Respected personalities in the PIAF jury will search for creativity in the whole marketing process, from positioning, product launch to creative means of sales promotion. PIAF Jury Almost Complete03/02/2011
The international PIAF jury faces some difficult work ahead – shortlisting and then choosing the best entries in the festival's brand new categories. The Jury, headed by Michael Conrad, will assess the ability to shape or change the position of a brand and communicate it to the target groups. This time, the competition will also cover creative forms of sales and sales support.
The jury will not rest solely on the experience of its president and other widely awarded legends of world advertising. Apart from them, the jury will also include professionals representing the young creative generation, as well as representatives of some of the major clients. Meet the first part of the Jury here.
Michael Conrad to chair the PIAF 2011 jury19/01/2011
Michael Conrad has been one of the most prominent figures in the world of advertising of the past 40 years. His rich experience led him to the perception that creativity is a general principle of work in various professions.
In 1975, he co-founded Lürzer, Conrad Frankfurt, which merged in 1980 with Leo Burnett Germany. In 1982, the agency was renamed Michael Conrad & Leo Burnett.
In 1986, he moved to Chicago as President and Chief Creative Officer of Leo Burnett International and in 1996 was named Vice-Chairman and Chief Creative Officer of Leo Burnett Worldwide. In 2000, Advertising Age named Leo Burnett Worldwide 'Global Agency of The Year'. In 2001, Leo Burnett Worldwide got the title of "Most Awarded Agency in the World" by the Gunn Report. Michael retired from Leo Burnett at the beginning of 2003.
Michael has chaired many juries in local, regional and global advertising festivals and is an honorary member of the Art Director Clubs of Germany, Austria and Europe. With the ADC Germany he founded the "Berlin School of Creative Leadership" (www.berlin-school.com) at Steinbeis University and serves as its president. He lives in Zürich, does some consulting in marketing and communication, and is a member of the BOD of Spillmann/Felser/Leo Burnett in Switzerland.
PIAF to revolutionize competition categories28/11/2010
The Prague International Advertising Festival 2011 will be held on May 11 and 12 in the subterranean section of the National Gallery in Prague. The call for entries is planned to be announced in early March of next year. The major change from this year's competition will be a completely different system of competition categories.
"Many experts have confirmed our opinion that the present division of competition categories based on media types is outdated. Coming up with a new viewpoint is risky and no established festival has yet dared make such a move. Who else but a brand new enterprise has the chance to push a new, more current point of view?" adds Hlavica. The fine-tuning of the individual categories is yet to be done. Everything needs to be finalized by the end of February 2011, when PIAF starts accepting competition entries.
Three groups of competition categories will assess not only the ideas of creative minds, but also the ingenuity with which the advertised message gets to the target group and the reaction it elicits. The categories also include creative marketing with an outreach to the phase of sales support. Apart from advertising agencies, PIAF will also more intensively address clients and the media. Furthermore, one advertising project or campaign may score in several categories at once.
PIAF is to keep the typical Czech category of beer ads. Moreover, it will add a special competition for advertising ordered by the state and its institutions.
Advertising projects will be assessed by an international jury in two rounds. Gold, silver and bronze trophies will be handed out to the best on the shortlist of finalists. Entries awarded in several categories will have the greatest chance of winning the Grand Prix award.
PIAF 2011 to move to the subterranean section and the roof of the National Gallery28/11/2010
The National Gallery in Prague ranks among the country's most significant monuments built in the functionalism style. It was destroyed by fire in the early 1970s. Following its reconstruction, it was once again opened to the public in the early 1990s. On five floors, it currently presents art of the late 19th century, last century as well as contemporary art. Among other things, it also boasts an extraordinary collection of French cubism.
Underground, the original screening room was restored, allowing the unused subterranean space to be used creatively. This is where the lectures, workshops and discussions will be held. The flat roof of the building, where a restaurant used to be, will be the venue for the farewell party.
Just like the Guggenheim Museum in New York, the National Gallery in Prague is an architectural artifact by itself. At the same time, it offers a top quality collection of both world and Czech fine art.
"I think that holding an advertising festival in a concealed, concrete underground part of a building which is home to works of so-called high art is symbolic, just like a boisterous party next to the works of Picasso, Braque, Miró and other greats is," says festival director Marek Hlavica.
